Did You Know?

Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers! Research shows that children whose parents engage in early learning activities—like reading, talking, and playing—have stronger language skills, better social-emotional development, and higher academic success later in life.

About the National Parenting Programme (NPP)

The National Parenting Programme (NPP) is a flagship initiative of HOPE worldwide South Africa, dedicated to equipping parents and caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to provide nurturing care for their children. Grounded in research and best practices in early childhood development, the programme focuses on strengthening positive parenting techniques to foster children’s cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.

What We Offer

  • Parenting Workshops: Interactive sessions designed to help parents understand child development, effective discipline strategies, and the importance of early learning.

  • Community Support Groups: A network of parents sharing experiences, challenges, and solutions in a safe and encouraging environment.

  • Home Visits & One-on-One Support: Personalized guidance for parents facing unique challenges.

Why It Matters: Research shows that the early years of a child’s life are critical for their long-term development. By equipping parents with the right tools, we can break cycles of poverty, improve childhood nutrition and learning outcomes, and create a foundation for lifelong success.

Our Reach: The programme began its operation nationwide, impacting many families in disadvantaged communities. More recently, NPP has been active in Gauteng. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, we hope to continue expanding our reach and deepen our impact.

Our Partners: In the past, we have worked in partnership with the National Department of Basic Education, UNICEF South Africa, National ECD Alliance (NECDA), the Department of Health, and VVOB. Together, we have successfully hosted the National Parenting Programme (NPP), further strengthening our commitment to empowering parents and caregivers.

Join us in shaping a brighter future for South Africa’s children—one parent at a time.
