Since 2001, Greener Pastures ECD Centre has been a vital support system for families in Diepsloot, starting with just six children in a small shack. In a community struggling with overcrowding, poverty, and food insecurity, founder Dora Mulapo was determined to create a safe learning space where young children could receive quality early childhood development (ECD) support and stay off the streets.
Despite limited resources, Dora’s unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of children has transformed many lives. One of the most impactful interventions has been the Unity Meals nutrition programme, implemented by HOPE worldwide SA in partnership with FUTURELIFE, Dis-Chem Foundation, Nivea, and Octodec. This initiative provides nutritious daily breakfasts, ensuring that children receive the essential food they need to grow and learn, even when their families struggle to pay school fees.
Dora’s dedication to early childhood education and nutrition has turned Greener Pastures ECD Centre into a safe haven for 46 children, offering them the chance to thrive despite challenging circumstances. Through quality nutrition and learning support, this centre continues to make a lasting impact on the future of young children in Diepsloot.
