This month, KFC South Africa launched “The Biggest Hunger Hack”, an innovative initiative to tackle child hunger in South Africa. HOPE worldwide South Africa was honoured to participate on a panel. Our team shared insights from years of experience in early childhood development and nutrition.

The initiative aimed to engage the public in co-creating practical ideas. These ideas can be implemented and scaled by organisations nationwide. As a result, more children can receive nutritious meals daily. The project builds on KFC’s Add Hope programme, which combines customer donations with KFC contributions to feed millions of children every day.

Speaking on the Impact of Child Hunger

During the event, our Country Director, Dr Marc Aguirre, spoke about the impact of child hunger on development. He also addressed barriers that prevent families from providing adequate nutrition. Importantly, he highlighted how hunger affects parents and caregivers. For example, food insecurity often leads to stress, difficult choices, and a reduced ability to provide care and support. His insights helped the audience understand the ripple effects of hunger on families.

Learning and Contributing to National Solutions

For HOPE worldwide SA, attending this event was an opportunity to learn, engage, and contribute knowledge to a national conversation on child nutrition. Furthermore, it reinforced the importance of collaboration, capacity building, and shared commitment. These efforts ensure that every child and parent in South Africa receives the support and nutrition they need to thrive.

Congratulations to KFC Add Hope on this groundbreaking initiative. HOPE worldwide SA looks forward to continuing to partner with organisations that combat child hunger and strengthen families across the country.
